‘Lean On Me’ singer and soul music legend Bill Withers has passed away at the age of 81 according to the family.
The 81-year-old 3-time Grammy winner has made a series of music industry-changing hits, mostly in the 1970s, before retiring from the music scene in the 1980s.
As his family revealed after his death, the music legend behind the titles such as ‘Lovely Day’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ has passed away from heart issues.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father,” the family wrote in an official statement.
“A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other.
“As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.”
Throughout the decades, Mr. Withers’ songs have left an ever-lasting impact on the music world whereas his songs are still frequently played during social gatherings and events such as weddings.
Several of his hits have also made it on the big screens as they appeared in movies such as American Beauty, The Secret Life of Pets, The Hangover, Beauty Shop, and 28 Days.
Following Withers’ passing, thousands of people, including other artists and musicians like Justin Timberlake, have taken to social media to pay a tribute to the music legend.
