Daughter Sang With Sign Language At Christmas Concert For Her Deaf Parents

Since I watched the documentary about a deaf community, Sound And Fury, I have always wanted to learn a sign language.

Learning a sign language is one of my bucket lists.

On the documentary, it says learning a sign language is joining a new community and culture as a sign language is another language like English, Spanish, and any other language.

Clair Koch, a 7-year-old girl, is naturally a member of a sign language community because she was born to it.

Claire’s parents Lori and Tom are both deaf but Claire and her little sister are not. As all of the family uses American Sign Language (ASL) since Claire and her sister were babies, they were fluent even though they are not hearing-impaired.

In 2013, Claire was in kindergarten and joined the holiday concert at the end of the year. Lori and Tom had seats in the front row and they had the interpreter right next to them.

They did not want to miss out their daughter on the stage so they made sure that the interpreter helped them.

However, Claire was already ready to include her parents in the concert. She didn’t want her parents to miss a single moment.

While singing with her friends, Claire also sang with the sign language for her parents to follow along with the show without the help of the interpreter.

As she interpreted words one by one, her parents could truly enjoy the moment with everyone else in the concert.

Lori and Tom could “listen” to all of the songs from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” to “Jingle Bells” thanks to their little girl.

Lori said, “I didn’t ask her, it wasn’t expected, it was just a surprise.”

Isn’t this wonderful that this little girl is so thoughtful and how she think about her parents? Please watch the video below and tell us what you think!
