Two siblings have beaten the odds as they were both born on the leap day in consecutive leap years.
Proud parents Lindsay and Dane Demchak were surprised when their baby boy Omri got born on February 29 back in 2016.
Four years later, on another leap year, the parents were shocked once more as their baby girl Scout also got welcomed into the family on the leap day.
“Deep down, I wanted it to happen and always joked with my wife that she will be born then, too, but never really believed it [would] happen again. I think they said the odds were 1 in 2 million,” Dane said in an interview with CNN.
As the parents revealed, they were just preparing for Omri’s fourth birthday when Scout, who was due on March 4, joined them.
Since being born on February 29 may result in some issues when it comes to celebrating birthdays, the parents have decided to celebrate Scout’s birthday on March 1 and Omri’s birthday on February 28 during regular years. On leap years, however, the two siblings can celebrate together.
In a similar story, a father who was born on a leap day 32 years ago has welcomed a baby daughter who was also born on February 29.
32-year-old Ivan Peñaloza from California was over the moon when he learned that his baby daughter was due on March 3.
Unexpectedly, however, the tiny girl arrived in this world on February 29, just as her father was celebrating his 8th official birthday.
“I prayed to God for my little baby girl and now we are going to share this amazing bond for the rest of our lives and I am just so happy,” the man said in a statement shared by Mercy San Juan Medical Center where baby Camila was born.
“We feel so blessed to have our little Camila here and so incredibly shocked at the coincidence that she now shares her leap day birthday with her dad,” Jennifer Rebollar Cortez, the baby’s mum, added in an interview with CNN.
