At Least 27 Killed, Including Young Children, Amid The Independence Day Shootings


Over one hundred people were shot and at least 27 were killed, including young children, across the U.

S. amid the Independence Day shootings on the 4th of July.

The worst violence was recorded in Chicago where, according to the Chicago Tribune, at least 63 people were injured as a result of gun violence on the national holiday.

Among at least 17 people that lost their lives in the city on the 4th of July were two young children, a 14-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl.

According to the reports, the 14-year-old victim was shot at a gathering in Englewood when four armed suspects opened fire on the crowd.

Meanwhile, the 7-year-old, identified as Natalia Wallace, was fatally shot while celebrating together with her family in the neighborhood of South Austin.

“Bullets just came from nowhere,” the young girl’s grandma, Linda Rogers, said according to Chicago Tribune. “Whoever did it, I wished they’d come forward.”

As the heartbroken father added, her daughter’s life was “cut down short” when she was “just being outside and doing what every other kid would do.”

“I’m hurt, I’m angry, I’m sad, disappointed. It’s something that no parent wants to do,” Nathan Wallace expressed.

Following Chicago in the number of shootings on Saturday was New York City where at least 37 people were injured, four fatally, as Independence Day celebrations were taking place.

According to the reports, the victims of the shootings also included two police officers who were shot at just outside the 40th Precinct station while in their SUV.

Other major cities that have reported fatal shootings on the 4th of July include Baltimore, Detroit, Memphis, and Greenville. Several people were also injured in shootings in Omaha, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and St. Louis.
