Shanghai has been praised around the world after coming up with a pollution-free way to celebrate New Year’s Eve without giving up on a bright display.
To eliminate the loud noise and the amount of waste generated during fireworks displays, China’s largest city programmed hundreds of drones to perform in sync to come up with stunning texts and shapes.
According to the reports, the drones were equipped with multi-colored lights, whereas they were controlled by the experts to fly and glow in stunning patterns.
The city’s decision to get rid of fireworks was based on the growing requests of people to eliminate loud noise, smoke pollution, and fire hazards associated with the traditional method of celebrating a new year.
In addition to the display of conventional patterns and texts, the drones also formed what appeared to be a giant person running through the sky and signifying “huge changes and glorious achievements Shanghai has made in the past 40 years of reform and opening up.”
After the successfully implemented idea went viral, people praised Shanghai for taking action in providing a cleaner alternative to fireworks for their people.
“This is great and I’m sure we’ll soon be seeing similar displays all around the world. People need to wake up and realize that traditions, though they may be cool, can be replaced with alternatives better for us and the environment,” someone wrote.
“Looks awesome I can only wish we had this in our city too,” another one added.
Someone suggested: “It is a very beautiful idea and it doesn’t hurt anyone – not us and not our beloved pets. I love fireworks but it’s time to move on and adapt.”
