Serviceman Linked To Disappearance Of US Soldier Vanessa Guillen Took His Own Life After Police Tried To Contact Him


The family of missing US soldier Vanessa Guillen said in a press conference that they believed she is dead and that the serviceman who shot himself when police tried to contact him is the same person who killed their loved one.

Attorney Natalie Kahwam said during the emotional press conference, “We have a dead person because of sexual harassment.”

Authorities have yet to confirm if the human remains discovered by a group of volunteers belong to the missing soldier. However, Guillen’s family said they believe the body is hers.

The soldier’s sister, Mayra, said to the reporters in Washington, DC: “It’s not confirmed yet whether it’s my sister or not but everything points to it.”

According to the US Army Criminal Investigation, another suspect, the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier is in custody.

Mayra said she met the man her sister accused of sexual harassment before she disappeared. Guillen was last seen at the Ford Hood Army Base on April 22.

“When I first when up to that base that subject I met him not knowing that he had something to do with it,” she said.

“I felt something was telling me that he did something. He still had the nerve that same day to laugh in my face and apparently now he kills himself why I don’t know.”

The Killeen Police Department said in a statement that authorities found the suspect in 4700 block of East Rancier Avenue.

“As officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, the suspect displayed a weapon and discharged it towards himself.”

The serviceman died at the scene, police said.

“The name of the soldier will not be released at this time pending the notification of next of kin,” theUS Army Criminal Investigation Command confirmed.

The estranged wife of a former soldier, a civilian suspect, is currently being held at the Bell County Jail.

“We have made significant progress in this tragic situation and are doing everything possible to get to the truth and bring answers to the family of Pfc. Vanessa Guillen,” a spokesperson for Army CID said.
