While Carrillo remained in custody, he has also been linked to the murder of Dave Underwood, a Federal Protective Service officer, who was shot during a BLM protest on May 29.

According to the reports, the suspect used the same home-built AR-15 rifle and a 1992 white Ford van to commit both crimes.

Following the arrest, Carrillo has been linked to the boogaloo movement, an extremist-backed group that opposes the government and believes that a violent uprising, specifically another civil war, is on the horizon and inevitable.

As Carrillo suggested in a Facebook comment prior to the BLM protest in Oakland, the civil unrest could be used as an opportunity to fuel their agenda.

“Use their anger to fuel our fire. Think outside the box. We have mobs of angry people to use to our advantage,” the US Air Force sergeant wrote.

Following Carrillo’s arrest during the second attack on June 6, another suspect, Robert Alvin Justus, had also been arrested and later admitted to driving the van that Carrillo used in his ambush.
