South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham has begged President-elect Joe Biden to call off the second impeachment.
Graham insists President Donald Trump should be given credit for making a ‘helpful’ statement and says the second impeachment ‘will destroy the country even further.’
According to reports, House Democrats will circulate an article of impeachment charging the president with ‘incitement of insurrection.’
The move comes after Wednesday’s riot in the U.S. Capitol, and House Rep. Ted Lieu of California tweeted that the article of impeachment will be introduced on Monday.
But Graham urged Biden to order Nancy Pelosi not to proceed.
“I wanted President Trump to win so badly,” Graham revealed. “Now, tonight, I am calling on President-elect Biden to pick up the phone and call Nancy Pelosi and the squad to end the second impeachment.
“President Trump gave a statement last night that was helpful. It hit the mark.
“He wants to move on to a peaceful transfer of power. He wants this to end.”
Graham continued: “I’ve been with him most of the day; he’s going to focus on his agenda and his successes for the American people, in the next few days.
“Joe Biden said it’s up to Congress regarding impeachment. No, President-elect Biden, it’s up to you.
“Pick up the phone and call Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and the squad and tell them: stand down; this will destroy the country even further.
“You have the power to do that. The question is, do you have the courage to do it.”
Biden has not responded to Graham’s request.
Since the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters, there have been many calls for the removal of President Trump.
Nancy Pelosi previously said that the House would move forward with the article of impeachment and confirmed that drafts were already being prepared by Democrat lawmakers.
