Instead we think of the brave men storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Fighting for every inch on the beaches or our brave men and women fighting terrorism overseas in the deserts of Afghanistan.

Although we may sometimes hear incredible stories of dogs that

Rodriguez rushed to evacuate injured Lucca out of the area and immediately called for a medic. Within mere minutes, a medical helicopter arrived as they began work on saving Lucca’s life. Lucca was treated like any other soldier as they did everything in their power to save her. As the military often says, we take care of our own.

As soon as Lucca was able to walk on her own again, she was eager to get out and work. However the injury was so severe that her military career was over. It was time for her to go back stateside and live out a relaxing life.

When Lucca finally arrived back home at the United States she received a huge hero’s welcome. That wasn’t all though! Thanks to an incredible program that reunites dogs with their old handlers when they’ve retired meant that Lucca was able to see her first handler, Chris Willingham and live out her life with him! Chris of course adopted Lucca and brought her back to his home where she would live out her life happy and relaxed like every hero should.
