Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was involved in an embarrassing gaffe as he accidentally replaced the word ‘insurrection’ with ‘erection’ in his Senate speech.
Talking to fellow lawmakers, the Democrat opened up about Trump’s upcoming impeachment trial as he accidentally suggested it will be up to the Senators to decide whether the former president incited an erection.
“Make no mistake there will be a trial and when that trial ends senators will have to decide if they believe Donald John – Donald John Trump incited the erection,” Schumer said before correcting himself by adding: “Insurrection against the United States.”
While fellow lawmakers present on the Senate grounds appeared to have ignored the error, netizens were quick to point out the mistake on social media after the announcement went viral.
“Chuck’s brain – don’t say erection don’t say erection don’t say erection. Chuck – ERECTION Chuck’s brain – S**t!!” one person joked.
“Chuck Schumer wants to know if Trump caused an erection. We’re in for a long, hard trial next week,” another one said.
The hilarious gaffe comes as the Senate Majority Leader announced that Trump’s impeachment trial would kick off on February 8.
“The January 6th insurrection at the Capitol incited by Donald J. Trump was a day none of us will ever forget. We all want to put this awful chapter in our nation’s history behind us,” Schumer said on Friday.
“But healing and unity will only come if there is truth and accountability, and that is what this trial will provide.”
