A 32 year old school worker who had sexual relations with a 16 year old high schooler was sentenced to 6 months in prison.
During the ruling, the judge for this case said that this worker is truly the nightmare of all parents who send their children to school.
After plea bargaining with the prosecution, Courtney Roznowski was only charged with the act of exposing her body to a student. In return, more serious acts of sexual assault were not prosecuted against her as per the state rules of Wisconsin.
According to local news reports, the sentence was finalized during a legal hearing that took place on Friday. It is said that Roznowski admitted to her wrongdoings, and said she knew what she did was wrong and immoral. However, Judge Donald Zuidmulder was not satisfied.
Saying that her apologies lacked sincerity and that her acts were of the lowest nature, the judge said people like Roznowski make it difficult for any parent to send their children to school knowing that they will be in safe, mature hands. He said that the 32 year old broke the hearts of all parents.
As he finalized the ruling, the judge said no matter what he sentences Roznowski to, the pain and humiliation that she brought upon her family will always remain a bigger punishment and reminder than anything within his jurisdiction.
Along with serving 6 months jail time, the court also ruled that Roznowski be placed under probation for an additional 3 years after her release and that she personally write a letter of apology to the staff who worked with her at Southwest High.
According to the police documents that the local news obtained, Roznowski had gone so far as to have sexual intercourse with the boy. She had told officers that the relationship did not begin as a sexual one but rather as a mentor – mentee relationship.
In the same document, the 16 year old student seemed rather nonchalant in describing the affair. He reportedly told the police that it is the dream of every teenage boy to have a sexual relationship with a female teacher. This corroborates with Roznowski’s argument that she did not initiate the relationship.
