Heroic Crossing Guard Rescued Child From Kidnapper After Hearing Screams


Who’s your favorite superhero?
Iron Man? Batman?
Well, even though those superheroes are indeed amazing, we should not forget about the superheroes around us.

One afternoon, Adrian Young became a hero by saving a little girl from being kidnapped.

Young works at Alexandria Avenue Elementary School in Los Angeles as a crossing guard. When she just finished her shift and was ready to go home, Young heard someone screaming.

It was one of the girls from the school.point 32 | Young said that the girl came up to her, and asked for help.point 80 |
Young described the situation on an interview with CNN – “She was like ‘Please don’t let her take me.point 259 |

Immediately, Young realized something was wrong.point 91 |
“I kind of went into mother mode, because I couldn’t see myself letting this little girl be taken.point 184 | I’m just grateful I was there,” said Young.point 232 | 1

Even though Young is not much taller than the children, being 4’8”, she reacted quickly by pulling the girl close to her.
It really was an amazing save.

Young also provided description about the kidnapper, which helped the police to catch the suspect later on.

After the child’s mother heard about the incident, she thanked Young for her heroic work. The mother was also concerned about the fact that the school didn’t seem to be providing enough safety measures for her child.

“To me, I didn’t feel that they did what they needed to do to keep my child safe, and apparently they seemed like they didn’t care because, thankfully, someone helped her,” said mother Sharon Arellano.

Later, Los Angeles City Council Member Mitch O’Farrell honored Young for her heroic work.point 197 |
“Sometimes superheroes come in small packages.point 244 |

And because of her diligence, training and awareness and just because she cares so much about children, she prevented what could have been a kidnapping of a child,” said O’Farrell.point 163 |
