Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly ready to open a dialogue with President Biden if the US is willing.

While the two superpowers have long been at odds over issues such as Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, the nearly-expired arms control treaty, and the country’s alleged meddling in US elections, there is now fresh hope that differences could be set aside in exchange for establishing a dialog.

“Of course, we count on success in setting up a dialog,” Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for Kremlin, reportedly said.

“This will be the dialog where, of course, differences will have to be stated to a greater extent, points of differences. But at the same time, a dialog is a possibility to find some rational kernels, the little parts where our relations are getting closer.”

As the spokesperson added, he has no doubts that Putin will respond if the US is willing to start a dialog with Russia.

“And if the current US administration is ready for such an approach, I have no doubts that our president will respond in kind,” he added.

The call for a dialog follows more than a month after Putin finally recognized Joe Biden as the winner of the US election. The Russian president extended his congratulations to Biden shortly after the Electoral College confirmed his win.

According to the reports, Putin “wished the President-Elect every success” as he suggested he was ready for the beginning of the “interaction and contact.”

The Russian President also went on to express confidence that the two superpowers “which have a special responsibility for global security and stability, could, despite their differences, really help to solve the many problems and challenges facing the world.”

Putin also appeared to defend the President-Elect’s son, Hunter Biden, against criticism the businessman has been facing due to his business dealings in Ukraine and Russia.

It appears that the calls for “interaction and contact” the Russian president had previously made have now been renewed through Mr. Peskov.
