Ex-CBBC star Chelsie Whibley with terminal illness fears she might not be alive to see her family and friends after the coronavirus lockdown gets over.
Chelsie, from Denmead, Hants, suffers from the incurable disease cystic fibrosis – an illness that causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system.
The 28-year-old, who is self-isolating at home, now fears she might not live to see her family and friends once the lockdown gets over.
She said it’s heartbreaking to think that she is running out of time because of lockdown that she could spend with her family and friends.
Chelsie said: “For me, every day is so precious that spending them under lockdown is like having them stolen. It feels like even more time is being taken away from me.”
“It’s just heartbreaking beyond words. I know that seeing my friends and family is too dangerous and it could be enough to tip my body over the edge.”
It breaks her heart knowing she doesn’t have much time left and she might not be alive to meet and see her family and friends once this lockdown ends.
Chelsie said she has a month-old nephew who she hasn’t met and she is scared if she will ever meet him. She wants to make memories with her nieces and nephews but unable to do so due to the lockdown.
Chelsie was told by the doctors that she would not live past 16 but she defied the odds.
However, her lungs have now barely work and she needs oxygen to support her lungs.
Chelsie is staying at her home instead of a hospital because hospital wards are being used for coronavirus patients and she is currently not being treated.
She said: “I’m scared about the interruption in my treatment and my care. I’m worried that the plan for my future treatment is going to slow down, halt, or just be forgotten about because we’re all so concerned about coronavirus.”
She said she has no time to wait and got the best care at the hospital but she is unable to stay in the hospital due to coronavirus outbreak.
She added: “I’ve got none of the facilities I would usually need. And that is terrifying.”
Chelsie stayed 12 days in the hospital before the country was put into lockdown.
She is now just waiting for the “ultimate cystic fibrosis cure drug” that will be available on the NHS the next year.
Chelsie hopes the drug helps extend her life because she doesn’t have much time left and she is just waiting for a miracle.
