The Wuhan Exodus: Sprinting Away From The Corona Epicenter As Lockdown Is Withdrawn


Despite concerns for a premature lifting of the lockdown implementation, Chinese authorities have allowed the people of Wuhan to move freely starting Wednesday, according to media reports.

This is after the city was cut off from the rest of the world starting January 23, when it has been recognized duly by the authorities that it was indeed a contagious disease.

Starting on 12:50am, heavily loaded trains with the people bustling to escape began operation, and within hours the railways and the highways that connected Wuhan with the rest of China started to operate in full circulation. The 11-million population has been freed from Corona, and there was no hesitancy in a majority trying to escape the city.

As for what supports their decision, the topmost personnel has cited only two new infection cases of the diseases within the last two weeks.point 242 |

For safety, barriers marking the boundaries in apartment styled compounds are still standing, and those with a green health code or attaching a document proving validity for transportation are the only ones allowed to go outside.

One citizen has said in her interview that: ‘she and her family had travelled to the city for the Lunar New Year holiday and became stuck there.’

A migrant worker from Guangdong Province proclaimed to the media happily that she’s going back as soon as she can to her hometown of Xiangyang city. ‘I’m very happy, I’m going home today. My mood will be better but when I get back I still won’t go out too much.’ she told Reuters inside Wuhan’s Hankou railway station.’

Meanwhile, across the South China Sea, Hong Kong authorities have claimed on Wednesday that social distancing and a near martial law imposing a ban on public gatherings over four people in a public gathering has been extended to 23 April, as they are in deep and clearly hard efforts to battle the pandemic spread.
