Rudy Giuliani Explains Why He Said ‘Let’s Have Trial By Combat’ Before Capitol Riot

Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani has finally explained what he meant as he encouraged the MAGA mob to have a trial by combat moments before they stormed the US Capitol.

“If they ran such a clean election, they’d have you come in and look at the paper ballots. Who hides evidence? Criminals hide evidence. Not honest people,” Giuliani insisted at the Save America rally last Wednesday.

“Over the next 10 days, we get to see the machines that are crooked, the ballots that are fraudulent, and if we’re wrong, we will be made fools of. But if we’re right, a lot of them will go to jail. Let’s have trial by combat.”

Following the attorney’s comments, critics accused Giuliani of inciting violence because the insurrection followed shortly after his speech.

Defending his choice of wording, Giuliani insisted that he was just quoting Tyrion Lannister, a fictional character that appears in HBO’s Game of Thrones, when he called for a trial by combat.

He also went on to claim that he was referring to the voting machines, and not an actual fight between people, when he called for a trial by combat.

“I’m talking about trial between machines. In fact, you’ll see it comes up exactly in the context of I challenge them to allow us to examine their machines. And then I say the consequences of the trial by combat will be if they prove that they’re wrong, we’ll be exceedingly embarrassed, we’ll be disgraced. If we prove they’re wrong, they go to jail,” he added.

Giuliani also suggested that his remark didn’t incite the riot because “it was not an emotion inspiring part of the speech.”

“The crowd didn’t jump up saying, ‘lock him up, throw him in jail, go to hell.’ I’ve had speeches where people jump up and say, ‘Lock him up.’ It was not an emotion inspiring part of the speech. So to try to take it out of context and use it is typical of the crooked left and the press,” the attorney told The Hill.
