In 2007, Kevin Morton Jr.
was walking back to his car after his night shift at a Detroit’s Arby. Then, out of nowhere, a man shot Kevin in the stomach and robbed him.
Even though he was immediately transferred to the hospital, Kevin’s life was at stake. He was in the trauma unit at St. John Hospital, where his family was told that Kevin had a 10% chance of making it through the night.
They prepared for the worst.
Fast forward to 2017 –
Kevin is is 31, happily married, and has a beautiful daughter.
And, most importantly, he is a doctor at the very same hospital he was at in 2007.
And he says that he was inspired to pursue medicine because of the person who saved his life, Dr. Sheth Zelmanski.
Before the tragic accident, Kevin had actually planned on going into the pharmaceutical industry. But, everything changed when he got another chance at life thanks to Dr. Sheth Zelmanski.
While spending 50 days at the hospital recovering, Kevin decided he wanted to do the same thing and better the world by becoming a doctor.
“The compassion and drive that Dr. Sheth has shown in trying to save my life.. I just wanna pay that forward,” said Morton.
“We knew he wasn’t going to give up,” said Dr. Sheth in her interview with the NBC News.
“We weren’t gonna give up – so we had to make it happen.”
And she added that she was simply amazed and touched by the fact that one of her patients not only survived, but at how her patient also turned as his student.
Like he said, Dr. Morton Jr. is going to start his residency program, working day and night to save many lives of others – just as Dr. Sheth saved his.
What a miraculous story! I hope both Dr. Sheth and Dr. Morton Jr. saves many lives together!
