On the streets of Río Bravo, a man and a woman who stole a woman’s purse were found duct-taped to a lamppost. Both suspects had their faces painted like the DC supervillain Joker.

Besides the comic display of paint, both the man and the woman also had the words ‘por rata’ – meaning ‘For being a thief’ – written on their foreheads. The shirtless man also had the phrase ‘soy rata’ – ‘I am a thief’ – inscribed on his chest.

While the female thief was able to free herself, the pair was apprehended by the police while she was trying to help her companion escape.

“I went after the woman. I took her purse. It was easy. I grabbed the purse to flee,” the male thief told the police after being arrested.

“Right now there is no work and there is no money. It was easy for me to do that. I beg for the woman forgiveness. I was not right in the head. I was under the influence of drugs. I am very sorry. Please forgive me.”

Meanwhile, the female thief identified herself as Luz Magaly in one of the leaked clips showing the pair’s interview with the police.

As it happens, this isn’t the first time Río Bravo vigilantes took matters into their own hands.

In another recent incident, four shirtless and duct-taped robbers were found marching the streets with their hands bound together after being caught stealing from people on public transport. The faces of all four males were also painted like the Joker.
