Horror hit an amusement park as their sky-high daredevil ride snapped in two, sending riders plunging to the ground.
Many people were injured but a 19-year-old girl was killed in the terrifying tragedy that occurred in Jizzakh, a city in Uzbekistan.
Riders were flung high in the air for a thrilling 360-degree swing. Unfortunately, the metal pendulum arm with a counterweight balancing the platform and holding passengers suddenly broke in half.
Screams of delight turned into cries of horror and pain as the huge metal arm snapped in two.
The platform with the thrill-seekers plunged to the ground at the Istiklol amusement park. According to Uzbek authorities, one female rider, 19, passed away. She was identified by her initials MH.
The Jizzakh city is 125 miles southwest of capital city Tashkent. Istiklol amusement park is on the bank of the River Sanzar.
One internet user commented: “Health and safety need to shut these places down they are too dangerous.”
Another wrote: “That poor girl and her family. Tragic :>( Someone didn’t do their job properly.”
A third said: “Loads of ex soviet areas have abandoned theme parks. Because the soviets build loads of stuff and when it collapsed, poverty set in and tourists from Russia stopped coming. So many couldn’t afford to maintain them. Obviously in this case they also couldn’t afford to adequately maintain them…but kept them open regardless.”
Someone else commented: “Your gambling with your life going on these things…best avoided.”
