People have been complaining about how addicted people have become to their smartphones.

There are even memes showing comparisons of people talking at the dinner table a few decades ago in contrast to today where people will all be staring at their smartphones (and taking photos of their food).

One mobile phone company seeks to go against the grain by coming up with Mudita Pure, a minimalist “dumb phone” that ditches most of the features found in smartphones such as apps.

The all-white phone looks simple enough and has a calendar, an alarm, can record notes, and even comes with a meditation timer. Like any mobile phone, it can also make calls and has text messaging.

The screen normally seen in smartphones has been replaced with an e-ink display. It’s the same type of eye-friendly screen that’s on a Kindle.

According to the phone’s creators, the Mudita Pure’s screen is meant to be easy on the eyes and can even improve your vision.

“Overuse of digital screens, which emit blue light, can lead to eye strain, including blurry vision, difficulty focusing, dry and irritated eyes or headaches,” they said.

“Pure has an e-ink display and customized front light that makes reading more natural and puts less strain on your eyes.”

The phone’s creators also cite research that says 86% of phone users get distracted by their smartphones even when talking to friends. And less than one-third prefer smartphones over s*x.

Going by that research, in theory, the distraction-free Mudita Pure should help you stay focused on your friends and get your interested in s*x again.

One big advantage of the minimalist design is the battery life. You can expect a whopping five days of battery juice.

What’s also surprising is that the minimalist white color scheme is attractive to look at. It also helps that it’s cheaper than an iPhone.

So far, the phone is part of a Kickstarter project that has managed funding from 727 backers.
