A Republican senator has addressed fellow GOP members and asked them to stand up to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene over her insensitive comments.
Ohio Senator Rob Portman has lashed out at the Georgia representative who is a proud QAnon follower and believes in a series of conspiracy theories.
Besides believing that the election was stolen and that Jewish space lasers were responsible for the California fires, Greene previously also called the Sandy Hook and Parkland shootings a hoax and suggested they were staged by the Democrats.
In recent weeks, the controversial representative, who has been facing calls to resign, continued to claim the election was stolen from Trump as she accused the media and the Democrats of hating America.
Speaking of Greene’s comments, Senator Portman insisted that fellow GOP members should stand up to the representative.
“I think Republican leaders ought to stand up and say it is totally unacceptable what she has said,” he told Dana Bash of CNN on Sunday.
“I saw a couple videos over the weekend and one had to do with violence as I see it. There is no place for violence in our political dialogue.
“By the way there is no place for violence in our country. I mean, this is something we got to get away from. So yeah. I think people ought to speak out clearly.”
While the senator acknowledged that the voters’ decision to put Greene in a position of power should be respected, he insisted that “a strong response” is needed following her comments.
“The voters who elected her in her district in Georgia, you know, ought to be respected. On the other hand when that kind of behavior occurs there has to be a strong response,” Portman said.
The Ohio senator also said he believes the GOP is deliberating Greene’s removal from the House Education and Labor Committee in order to send a strong message.
