A repairman was left stunned after a customer paid him not to fix his phone and call his partner to tell her the device couldn’t be repaired.
As Sheffield-based Oli Pickles revealed, he was surprised when he received a broken phone with a note not to fix it attached by one of his customers.
“Bro – keep the money and the phone. Just call my missus and tell her you can’t fix it. I’ll tell you full story later,” the note read.
As the 28-year-old phone repairman said, he did nothing – exactly what he was paid to do. After not fixing the broken iPhone, he called the woman’s partner and informed her he couldn’t do anything about it.
However, the man couldn’t help but wonder what the reason behind the bizarre request was, whereas the customer who promised to explain the entire story upon his return allegedly never did so.
As Mr. Pickles added, he did kind of violate the ‘bro-pact’ by sharing the story with the media though. It was probably just too much for him to keep to himself.
“Also, please don’t share this story with a national paper and massively increase the chances of my missus finding out about my ruse,” a hidden clause in the note read.
According to the repairman, something about the mysterious customer was off right from the beginning.
“I’ve been fixing phones for six years and have never been paid not to get one going again. It’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said in an interview with The Daily Mail.
“I don’t know what this customer was trying to hide but clearly he wanted to keep it secret from his partner. It must have been so important, that he was willing to pay for it. Normally, people are desperate to get their mobiles working again but not him.
“When he handed over the phone I just had a feeling that he wasn’t coming back. There was something not right about him and he was acting quite shifty.”
