How To Remove Wax From Apples To Prevent Yourself From Its Harmful Effects

The apples lose its shine when they are washed as the natural coating gets washed off.

The sellers put wax on apples to make them shiny. This process is called Edible Coating.

Apples with extra shiny appearances is due to wax coating. But you can also check if there’s wax in the following ways.

1. Scratch the surface gently with the help of a knife. The residues of wax will be on the knife.

2. Use your palm to rub the apple as it will leave white powder on your palm. This powder is the wax coating.

The food grade wax is used on fruits and vegetables. This is an edible synthetic coating. These waxes are taken from natural sources, therefore it is not harmful.

It is safe to consume natural wax coating on vegetables and fruits but the synthetic wax that is placed on apples can’t be digested by your body easily. This unabsorbed wax stays in your small intestine. Some issues can be caused by this wax in your digestive system.

It is always a great option to remove the wax before eating the apple. We all wash fruits before eating them. But washing them is not enough.

Here is how to remove wax from apple:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Wipe the apples with cloth or paper towel with the Apple cider vinegar solution. Then wash them with water.

2. Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

Take some water and mix 1 tablespoon baking soda and lemon juice in it. Use the vegetable brush to scrub apples after dipping them in the mixture. Wash with water afterwards.

3. Use Hot Water

To remove the wax, dip the apple in hot water for a few seconds. Then take it out and wash it again with water.
