A Muslim group has gone viral after traveling for hundreds of miles in order to make it to a rural town affected by bushfires and donating $10,000 to local firefighters.
Sydney-based members of the United Muslims of Australia have made a 230-mile trip in order to reach the town of Wauchope and present the Rural Fire Service with the substantial cheque.
According to the group’s representative, Ibrahim Dadoun, the UMA has wanted to help firefighters after seeing how bravely they fight and risk their lives across the country that’s being ravaged by bushfires.
And so, Dadoun reached out to his fellow members and before they knew it they have raised $10,000 for the selfless purpose.
“We have four venues in Sydney and we also collected funds on social media over four or five days. It was overwhelming to see the community was so generous to give this much money in such a short time, if we extended it, I’m sure we would have gotten more,” Dadoun said.
“We are a community organisation in Sydney and when we see our fellow Australians suffering we call out to the community and help them.”
While the organization may only have 1,000 regular members, their hearts are definitely in the right place, and their call for help reached dozens of thousands of people.
“As we were driving on the highway there were signs melted away, all the trees were burnt and we walked through the affected area which was horrifying,” Dadoun added, as he explained they drove all the way to Wauchope because their fire center is responsible for distributing funds throughout the Mid North Coast region.
After the generous act went viral, people applauded the group and praised them for supporting Australian firefighters amid the natural calamity.
