Watch the rats who are orphan kittens’ caretakers

The Brooklyn Cat Cafe has employed two rats to take care of orphan kittens.
The Brooklyn Cat Cafe is located in the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill neighborhood and is run by volunteers of the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition.
The Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition is a non-profit which ‘is focused on improving the welfare of abandoned animals needing help in Brooklyn’, according to its website.
It was opened more than 1 year ago but recently they have employed two rats named Emile and Remy as kitten caretakers.
The cat cafe has adopted Remy and Emile from the small animal rescue group Helping All Little Things.
Both, Emile and Remy work as nannies to the orphan or rescued kittens. Recently, a heartwarming video was shared on Facebook that shows Emile and Remy taking care of the kittens.

“They love vegetables and head scratches. Although rats and cats have adversarial relationships outside the terrarium – inside the kittens are the perfect size to have supervised romp and play sessions with the rats.”
“ Because the rats are not scared of the kittens, they don’t run away and the cats don’t hunt them.
However, the kittens are convinced that the rat tails are there primarily for them to play with.
Remy and Emile are ok with that so long as the kittens play gently with their tails.”
“People don’t realize how smart and sweet [rats] are. Emile rolls on his back and I can tickle his tummy.
They make a purring/clicking sound when I rub their face and nose and they love to cuddle and know when it’s evening time and they get their snacks and cuddles”, said Levin.
