Some species that are completely ordinary to a person in living in one country can look mysterious and exotic to those outside that country.
But there are some breeds of dogs that are even rare to those who live in their home country. Below are some dog breeds who are unique to even the most knowledgeable dog lovers out there.

#3. The Portuguese Water Dog
This breed was popular in the Middle Ages and could be found all around Portugal’s coast. These dogs herded fish into fishermen’s nets, looked for broken nets, and delivered messages from one ship to another.

The Greenland dogs are known for their strength, endurance, and sense of direction. Despite the fact that they’re one of the most ancient breeds of sled dogs, they were often used for hunting northern animals like deer, walrus, and bears.

The Kuvasz is a sheepdog breed from Hungary. There were only 30 of them left after World War II and nowadays this is a very rare breed. Despite their tough looks, they are extremely loyal and patient.

The Kai was kept for hunting and they attracted attention because of their tigrine fur. These dogs choose only one master and don’t get attached to the other members of the family. They’re famous for their brave and calm demeanor, ability to swim, and adeptness at climbing trees.

The Sloughi is a very rare and old African breed of dogs. Unfortunately, during World War II many European dogs breeds disappeared and the Sloughi was no exception. They completely disappeared from the regions they originally came from in the 1960’s.

That’s why this breed didn’t have any duties at first and was considered a mascot and people believed that this dog brought luck to the house.

Despite their curly and cute looks, it’s actually is a sheepdog. Pumi dogs are very good shepherds and it’s better to not keep them at home. They react to the tiniest movements, smells, and sounds, and their distinguishing feature is loud barking.

The Stabyhoun is a very talented breed in many aspects, they can hunt, protect the house, catch mice, and were even used instead of horses to pull a vehicle. They are also great swimmers who even feel comfortable in cold water.
#12. The Pungsan
The Pungsan was developed for hunting big animals, including the Siberian tiger. The Pungsan is an extremely strong breed that hunts well in the mountains and can sleep in the snow.
