Zoom has been one of the platforms that teachers have been using to communicate and teach to students, and this one has to be one of the worst instances.

Mother, Katura Stokes, filed the claim against the Palmdale School District after catching the remarks on a recorded video, since the teacher had forgotten to leave the Zoom call completely.

The teacher, Newman, is caught on camera as she rants to someone in the call, reportedly her husband, that there are claims of Stokes hasn’t made contact with the school and does not care about helping her son with his classwork. “She rants: They’re black. She’s black. They’re a black family.”

The clip continues, accusing the song has “learned to lie and make excuses that nothing is his fault. This what black people do. White people do it too, but black people do it way more.”

Her racist rant catches a thrilling tone of the teacher, Newman, as she ends it with “Oh my God, I just burned her. I just f**king burned her. Everybody is f**king thrilled,” insinuating that whoever was listening is excited for the teacher being “right.”

According to the attorneys of Stokes, the mom had reached out to teachers at her son’s school, Desert Willow Fine Arts, Science and Technology Magnet Academy back in January since her son was struggling to adjust to online learning.

After the release of the video and the news, science teacher Newman has resigned and ceased her social media accounts. Without the proof of the video, the mother believed that no one would believe it was real if she told others.

Taylor, from The Orange County Register comments, “The horrible comments that are made are heartbreaking for a mother to hear and for her young son to hear.”

“It’s unthinkable that an educator would mock and belittle this family. All children are entitled to receive an educational experience free of discrimination and this video has demonstrated what minority students often face behind the scenes today.”
