But The Queen is said to have been ‘sent over the edge’ after it was claimed that she was introduced to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s second child over a video call.

According to The Mail, no such video call took place.

“They were very excited and couldn’t wait to share that their daughter arrived,” a source told People magazine.

But an insider has told the Mail: “No video call has taken place.

“Friends of the Sussexes appear to have given misleading briefings to journalists about what the Queen had said and that took the whole thing over the edge.”

The source said that further false communications will be dealt with robustly by the members of the Royal Family.

“This is about whether or not what is being reported is an accurate version of what actually happened,” the insider added.

According to The Mail, the Queen was surprised to hear that Prince Harry had supposedly called her first to ask permission to use her nickname Lilibet.

A spokesperson for the couple told the New York Post that the Duke of Sussex had spoken to the Queen first and revealed his hope to name his daughter in her honor.

However, a senior Palace source told the BBC that the conversation about the name was ‘a telling, not an asking.’

The BBC report then prompted a legal letter from the couple’s lawyers, which described the story as ‘defamatory.’

The Queen’s grandfather King George V first gave her the nickname Lilibet when she couldn’t properly say Elizabeth as a child. It was later adopted by Prince Philip.

In a statement on Harry and Meghan’s website, it said that: “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
