Fergus, a five-month-old Dorgi bought by Prince Andrew to keep Her Majesty company while Prince Philip was in hospital after heart surgery, passed away this weekend.

This comes less than two months after she said her final goodbyes to the Duke of Edinburgh in St. George’s Chapel.

It wasn’t revealed how Fergus died.

According to reports, the Queen named the dorgi – a Welsh Corgi and a Dachshund mix – Fergus, after her uncle Fergus Bowes-Lyon, who passed away during the first world war.

Prince Andrew bought Fergus along with another corgi, Muick – after Lock Muick, a lake in Scotland.

“The Queen is absolutely devastated,” a source told The Sun.

“’The puppies were brought in to cheer her up during a very difficult period. Everyone concerned is upset as this comes so soon after she lost her husband.”

This comes only months after the Queen lost her loyal dachshund-corgi cross named Vulcan, who had been the monarch’s companion since 2007.

In a 2015 interview with Vanity Fair, Monty Robers, the Queen’s informal adviser, said she would no longer get more dogs as she didn’t want to leave any behind when she passes away.

“She didn’t want any more young dogs. She didn’t want to leave any young dog behind. She wanted to put an end to it.”

But when she was gifted with two corgis, a source told The Sun: “The Queen is delighted. It’s unthinkable that the Queen wouldn’t have any corgis.

“It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens. They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home.

“Both are said to be bringing in a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in hospital.”
