Vladimir Putin has responded after Joe Biden called him a ‘killer’ during an interview with ABC.
The US President also said that the Russian President “will pay a price” for his efforts to undermine the 2020 election.
When George Stephanopoulos asked him if he thought Putin was ‘a killer,’ Biden said: “I do.”
The Russian President chillingly responded: “It takes one to know one.”
“I remember in my childhood, when we argued in the courtyard with each other we used to say: it takes one to know one,” Putin said.
“And that’s not a coincidence, not just a children’s saying or joke. The psychological meaning here is very deep.”
The Russian President continued: “We always see our own traits in other people and think they are like how we really are. And as a result we assess (a person’s) activities and give assessments.”
He also proposed they had another conversation to be broadcast live.
“I want to offer President Biden to continue our discussion but on the condition that we do it live, online, without any delays but in an open, direct discussion,” he said.
Biden’s remarks prompted Russia to recall its Washington ambassador for consultations.
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that “there hasn’t been anything like this in history.”
He also said that it was evident that the US President “definitely does not want to improve relations” and that the relationship between the countries is “very bad.”
When Peskov was asked about how it can affect relations, he said: “It is absolutely clear how.
“These are very bad statements by the President of the United States. He definitely does not want to improve relations with us, and we will continue to proceed from this.”
