The pup’s actions show that he’ll make an excellent swimmer. To teach a dog how to swim, the most important thing is to play pool games with them. While doing so, hold them from their hips to provide support as they learn swimming.

Once you teach your dog how to swim in the pool, they automatically learn how to swim outdoors. A dog’s first time with the water is a memorable experience, so don’t make it a bad memory for them. Try to start the process with shallow water and provide floaters so that the dog can have a safe haven if swimming gets tough.

Encourage your dog to learn but don’t be rude with them. It is easier to teach a puppy how to swim than an adult dog who has developed a phobia of water due to lack of interaction or negative personal experience.

However, in both of the situations, make the first experience gradual and execute it slowly to make it memorable for the dog.

Provide toys made of water-resistant stuff like plastic and rubber in the pool area, and remain with your dog to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Once you have made the first experience a cherished memory for your dog, nothing can stop them from being a good swimmer. If the dog is too young or too afraid to step into the water, a good option is to start with a shallow plastic pool.

One more thing to keep in mind is that all dog breeds do not have the same ability to swim.

The water dog, for instance, is as good as a fish when it comes to swimming. On the other hand, bulldog is very difficult to train for diving and swimming.
