According to Helga Carter who posted the photos online, the pup belongs to one of the parents at her school who brought the pug in to show her to the children.

“A 6-legged pup! A parent at my school brought in this tiny pug named Lulu, who was totally unfazed by the large excited crowd of kids cooing over her,” Helga explained.

“What makes this little girl super-special is her extra two left hind legs! She uses the outer two to walk and the one in the middle just hangs there.

“The owners will see as she grows if they will need to amputate any or all of them.”

As the woman later on elaborated, Lulu’s owners said that the dog’s condition could be a “natural occurrence” and explained how puppies like her typically get put down shortly after their birth.

Fortunately, however, Lulu managed to escape the bitter ending as she was put up for adoption and taken in by a loving family from Surrey, British Columbia.

“These extra two legs were possibly from an undeveloped twin that was partially absorbed by Lulu while in her mother’s womb. Not sure this is an overbreeding issue – maybe a rare but natural occurrence?” Helga added.

“Lulu’s owner told me that typically a breeder would put a newborn pup like this down. Happily, this breeder put her up for adoption, since she couldn’t be sold.

“She is so sweet, very calm and affectionate, and definitely not in pain. Celebrating the specialness of this little survivor.”
