A 3-week-old pit bull mix pup was found in a severe condition after thugs cut off a part of her tail, burned her back, and beat her up before wrapping her in a plastic bag and dumping her in the trash.
The pup, who was named Hope by the rescuers, was discovered in an alley in Coachella, California, on May 5.
Despite all odds, Hope’s condition has been gradually improving and she is expected to make a full recovery at the hands of The Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation.
“Found tied in a plastic bag with burns on her back. Her legs were crushed, and she was rushed to emergency in critical condition,” the rescuers wrote on Facebook.
“It appears as if she was burned with a caustic substance or a metal object like an iron. She is only a few weeks old, had a portion of her tail cut off, and can not walk due to being beat and assaulted.”
While the pup’s caretakers weren’t certain whether Hope would survive the ordeal or ever be able to walk again, she appears to be in a much better condition one month after the abuse occurred.
“Currently she is in foster care being treated for burns that have not yet healed, but is expected to make a full recovery,” TAHWF wrote in a Facebook update.
Following the severe animal cruelty case, the foundation has also been working to identify the person responsible for the torture of Hope.
With no CCTV video or tips available to help the authorities catch the criminal, the foundation has offered $10,000 for information that would lead to an arrest of the culprit. Doubling the total allotted reward funds, model Joanna Krupa and actress Shannen Doherty donated $5,000 each.
“While the scars of her past life will never leave her, it is who we are on the inside, that touches the world and those that surround us. The dog who defied all odds,” the Foundation wrote, adding that an adoptive family is already preparing to welcome the pup into their home once she fully recovers.
