A woman who found an adorable pooch in her garden was left stunned when it turned out to be a dingo.
The woman, from Bright, Australia, shared the unusual story on Facebook, writing how she went outside her home after hearing the whimpering animal.
“I woke up this morning hearing a whimpering on my bush block, l can’t tell if it’s a fox or a dog,” she wrote on her Facebook.
She also shared some snaps of the adorable animal in her post, which started a debate among the social media users about the creature’s species.
The woman, who couldn’t decide if the animal was a fox or a dog, took it to Alpine Animal Hospital, where a DNA test revealed that the cute little fella was a purebred dingo.
Now named Wandi, the animal was sent to the Australian Dingo Foundation’s sanctuary to be taken care of.
It later came to light that Wandi was picked up by an eagle from somewhere, before getting dropped near the woman’s garden.
The sanctuary wrote on their Instagram: “After weeks of anxious waiting, results from UNSW’s genetics lab revealed Wandi is a 100 percent pure Victoria highlands dingo.
“Wandi will become part of our breeding program, adding new genes to increase strength and diversity of our captive insurance population of pure dingoes we have at our sanctuary.
“We believe Wandi was stolen by an eagle and dropped as he had sustained wounds on his back, and his nails were worn down suggesting he had travelled far on foot before being found.”
“He was a puppy when he was brought to us, so about eight to ten weeks,” vet Dr. Bec Day told abc.au.
“He had a mark on his back and there were no other pups nearby. The resident hadn’t heard any [other dingos] calling. So, he was just a lonely little soul sitting in a backyard.
“He was adorable, serious puppy cuteness. No fear of people at all. He was quite calm about the whole process.”
