A clever pug has found a way to lock his dog sister inside his cage, an act that shocked his owner who claimed he learned how to do it on his own.
As Andrew Nechetsky revealed, his two rescue pugs Elphie and Terrell make great siblings. However, as inseparable the two dogs are, Terrell apparently needs some time of his own every now and then.
“I leave for work before my wife does, and she would always put him in the crate as he was a puppy. We would put a gate in between the kitchen and the hallway so Elphie wouldn’t bother him while we were gone,” Andrew explained in an interview with The Dodo.
However, things didn’t go as planned, and Andrew was shocked to see Elphie and Terrell roaming around freely when he returned home.
“We learned that she figured out how to climb over the gate and she would let him out of the crate,” the dog owner added.
While the incident sure was a surprise, this wasn’t the end of the dogs’ mischiefs.
In another plot twist, Andrew returned from work only to find Elphie locked in Terrell’s cage that couldn’t possibly be locked from the inside.
“I started coming home from work and I’d open the front door and hear her crying. I walk into the kitchen and see her locked in the crate. I honestly couldn’t for the life of me figure out how she got in there,” he said.
In an attempt to solve the mystery, Andrew began stalking the dogs until he finally caught Terrell in the act of locking his sister up.
“I see him open the crate, then he walks away and grabs a little pig toy and he puts it in the crate. He walked away and waited, she went looking for her pig, saw it in the crate, walked in and sat next to it. Then he closed the door and used his mouth to latch it shut. It blew my freakin’ mind,” the dog owner explained.
After Terrell locked Elphie up again just a few hours following her release, Andrew decided to put the cage away for good.
