The touching response of the landlady of a pub in Sheffield, England, has gone viral after a father asked if his son who had behavioral problems was allowed inside on Sunday, June 24.
What the owner of the pub, The Barrel Chapeltown, said in response has won the hearts of people across the globe!
The father was hesitant to enter the pub with his son as the disabled boy who uses a wheelchair was likely to cause inconvenience to other people due to his problematic behavior. The father was afraid they would be asked to leave if his son were to make loud noises or waver his arms.
However, the 29-year-old landlady, Steph Tate, not only welcomed the pair inside but also consoled them with a heartfelt response – and it is the best thing you’ll read all day!
Tate shared the heartwarming response she gave to the father on her pub’s Facebook page and emphasized that she will always welcome the differently abled people of the society and will leave no stone unturned to make them feel comfortable in her pub.
In her post, Tate wrote: ‘Yesterday a parent came in and asked me if his wheelchair bound child was ok to be in the pub, I was confused why he felt he needed to ask. This man went on to explain that his child sometimes makes loud noises and waves his arms about, people have made comments in the past when he has taken him out.
‘It broke my heart that a parent felt they needed to ask if it was ok for his child to be here just like anyone else.
‘My intention is not to embarrass the parent who I spoke to yesterday, it has played on my mind all night about how this man must have felt asking me if his child would be accepted in here. It then got me thinking about how many other people must be in the same position.
‘Whether you need us to get you extension leads to plug specialist equipment in, help moving tables/chairs for wheelchairs or any other help you may need, everyone is welcome in my pub and help will always be offered by all of my staff.
‘If you’re sat at home with a disabled child, partner or friend and feel on edge about taking them anywhere due to fear of someone making comments please feel free to bring them here. If I find anyone making negative comments or being disrespectful they will be asked to leave not you.’
The post went viral as soon as it was shared with thousands across the globe admiring the woman for her kind response.
One user commented: ‘WOW, this is such an amazing & admirable response to a heartbreaking situation. Absolutely well done to you, you deserve as much (global) praise as you get & I do hope the parent & his child enjoyed a lovely time there!!!!’
Another wrote: ‘What a wonderful person you are, pitty the rest of society don’t have your attitude towards disabled or others needing assistance.’
A father of a disabled child said: ‘Greetings from Orlando, Florida. As a father to a son with a disability, I cannot thank you enough. If I am ever in the area, I will visit and tell you and your entire staff thank you in person.’
Tate had not expected her post to receive such overwhelming response from all over the world.
‘The response I received was overwhelming – I couldn’t believe the number of notifications by phone had the next day.
‘It is lovely to read and nice to see that kind of support and hope that this encourages a positive message to others.’
