A police chief was injured along with several police officers after the authorities got attacked by protesters wielding sticks.
The incident occurred on Brooklyn Bridge in New York where several anti-police protesters got arrested for attacking police officers, including the NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan, during a clash with pro-police protesters.
According to the reports, at least four officers, including the Police Chief, sustained serious injuries after getting beaten by an angry mob of anti-police protesters on Wednesday.
In the footage obtained by DailyMail.com, one of the protesters is seen striking Monahan, who was wearing a white outfit at the time of the incident, in the head several times.
At another moment, one protester was seen knocking a police officer to the ground before hitting him several times.
Following the clash, the New York Police Department also shared photos of the injuries that at least four of their officers suffered during the brawl with protesters.
The authorities have also released photos of the suspect who was seen wielding a long object used to fight the police before fleeing the scene as officers gained control of the situation. They have asked for help in identifying the male who is wanted for questioning in connection with the attack on the police officers.
After the incident, Sergeants Benevolent Association president, Ed Mullins, opened up about the incident and slammed the authorities for allowing it to happen.
“If the mayor were doing his job properly, we wouldn’t have this issue. If the DAs were prosecuting the laws, we wouldn’t have these issues. What we are seeing right now is chaos in the city of New York and the victims are minorities,” he said in an interview with CBSNY.
