Protester Who Gave Interview Alongside Quadruple Amputee Fiancée Was Shot By A Motorist


A protester was pushing his quadruple amputee fiancée in her wheelchair when he shot by a motorist who drove toward the crowd and opened fire.

Garrett Foster, a BLM demonstrator, had joined several peaceful protests with his fiancée, Whitney Mitchell.

His mother, Sheila, told Good Morning America that Foster was pushing Mitchell in her wheelchair when the gunman drove toward the crowd and opened fire.

A spokesperson for the police, Katrina Ratliff, said that the incident occurred during a protest in Austin.

During the peaceful protest, a car had honked and sped toward the crowd, said one of the witnesses, Michael Capochiano.

The car became surrounded by demonstrators, and Foster, who was carrying his AK-47, also walked toward the car. However, the driver stuck a gun out of the window and opened fire, hitting Foster numerous times, Capochiano said.

He was taken to a hospital where he passed away.

In an interview with GMA, Sheila said that her son was licensed to carry a gun and ‘would’ve felt the need to protect himself.’

Before the shooting, Foster was seen giving an interview about why he had AK-47. He can be heard responding: “They don’t let us march in the streets anymore so gotta practice some of our rights.”

Ratliff said a suspect has been detained and is cooperating with officers. Police are searching for another suspect, who also opened fire during the demonstration.

The protest was streamed live on Facebook and showed the moment when multiple shots were fired as demonstrators marched and shouted ‘Fists up! Fight back!’

According to reports, there were no other injuries or deaths.
