A space enthusiast popped the question in a rare proposal as the comet known as Neowise passed across the sky above him and his girlfriend.
33-year-old John Nicotera is a New York-based space fan who prepared an out-of-this-world proposal for his beloved partner, 26-year-old Erica Pendrak.
Ahead of the celestial event, which is set to happen once every 6,800 years, the couple took to Old Forge to observe the comet with bare eyes as it passed by our planet.
What Erica didn’t expect, however, is that John would drop on his knee and pop the question right as the comet soared through the dark blue sky above the pair.
“This could be our engagement. This is not going to happen in our lifetime or five generations’ lifetimes,” John said to himself as he was preparing for the special proposal according to CNN.
As the teacher explained, he and Erica were surprised by a beautiful scene as they reached his family’s place to enjoy the special event.
“Every single star was out … it was too special to let it go. I just remember the amount of happiness I had going through me. All the nerves were gone at that point. I was just like, ‘I’m massively in love with this girl. I’m going to do it,’” John expressed.
Enjoying the romantic moment was also Erica who told WEPT that the proposal left her “completely shocked, tears and everything.”
To make sure that the special moment got caught on camera, John asked his friend, Tim Leach, who is a photographer, to join them and snap some photos.
“Tim froze time for us so we could live this moment forever. I’ve never seen anything so beautiful,” John said.
