Professor Neil Ferguson and his research on the unprecedented infectiousness of Covid-19 is widely credited for being the impetus for the national lockdown measures in the United Kingdom.
Yet in an ironic manner, Professor Ferguson has resigned from his public role after it known that his lover violated lockdown measures with his knowledge.
Although he had personally emphasized the importance of people staying at their homes to stop the spread of the virus, Ferguson admitted that his lover had visited his house in London at least twice although the lockdown measures were in order.
Ms. Antonia Staats, Professor Feguson’s girlfriend, has admitted that she has visited Professor Ferguson at least twice after visiting him after his self-quarantine was over after two weeks. Ms. Staats is 38 years old while Professor Ferguson is 13 years her senior.
According to the very rules that Professor Ferguson suggested to the government in his research, his actions should be put to punishment. Ferguson had suggested that a couple should either move in together and minimize external risks to the minimum, or restrain from seeing each other when the lockdown measures are in order.
Ms. Staats first visited Professsor Ferguson on the penultimate day of March, which was only a week after national lockdown measures were issued in the UK. On the same day, Ferguson had released a statement that recommended lockdown measures be extended at least to the end of June.
The second visit to Professor Ferguson happened not 10 days after the initial visit on April 8th. Ms. Staats, who is married to another man, had told her friends that she was visiting her husband for she worried that he had been infected with the novel coronavirus.
The Daily Mail reports that Ms. Staats is known to be in an open relationship with her husband, and has given birth to at least tow children in this relationship. The Mail also reported that Ms. Staats didn’t see any hypocrisy in her action as she considered the two families equally as her own household.
As the general public becomes increasingly frustrated with the national lockdown measures, this story may be a good source for the opposition to say that the whole lockdown measures are a hoax to subjugate the ‘normal people’.
