Princess Maria Teresa has passed away from COVID-19 at the age of 86 and became the first royal family member to suffer fatal consequences of the killer bug.
The Spanish princess was born on July 28, 1933, in Paris, France. Her parents were Prince Xavier and Madeleine de Bourbon who gave life to six children including princess Maria Teresa.
They belong to the House of Bourbon-Parma, a branch of the royal family of Spain. While the princess didn’t have any kids of her own, she had plenty of nephews and nieces that will carry on the family name.
The news of the 86-year-old’s passing was announced by Prince Sixtus Henry of Bourbon-Parma, Teresa’s 79-year-old brother.
As the prince claimed, his sister was a “victim of coronavirus” who spent her final moments in Paris.
“Don Sixto Enrique is very sorry and begs for prayers for his sister’s eternal rest,” the official statement read.
The tragic news follows shortly after it was revealed that Prince Charles of Britain was tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
“He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual,” the spokesperson for the Clarence House, a British royal residence, said on March 25.
“The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with Government and medical advice, the Prince and the Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland.”
While the statement continued to explain it isn’t clear where exactly the prince has caught the virus, they claimed “the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks” contributed to developing the infection.
According to the royal aides, Prince Charles has already recovered from the virus.
