Clapping sounds echoed through the streets of UK as people celebrated NHS heroes and other healthcare workers on the COVID-19 frontline.
Doctors, nurses, and hospital workers were seen wiping away tears as they watched the 8 pm Clap for Carers.
Photos show the heartwarming scenes up and down the UK as millions came together to applaud the frontliners.
The first Clap For Carers occurred on March 26. Residents go outside to cheer, clap, and bang pans and pots for the NHS. Some people even use their musical instruments and emergency services wounded their horns and sirens while flashing their blue lights.
The campaign’s organizers believe frontliners need to know people are grateful for their hard work during these difficult times.
NHS staff have been joined by students and retired personnel to fight the pandemic.
Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also joined in the Clap for Carers.
Philanthropist Michael Ashcroft says a collective George Cross medal should be awarded to the NHS, adding that it would be appropriate as it acknowledges bravery that didn’t occur in the heat of battle.
“NHS staff and other key workers are constantly involved in life-and-death struggles not just for the coronavirus patients but for their own survival,” the George Cross expert wrote.
“Yet they go out to confront these dangers head-on. It is for this reason that their incredible courage, not just their admirable devotion to their job, must eventually be recognised in a lasting and appropriate way.”
