The Duke of Cambridge secretly battled coronavirus and was left struggling to breathe.
Prince William, 38, tested positive for Covid-19 in April days after his father Prince Charles contracted the virus. He did not want to alarm the public so he decided to not reveal that he was sick.
According to reports, the Duke caught coronavirus after Boris Johnson and the Prince of Wales tested positive for the virus.
During those darkest days of the pandemic, there had been over 50,000 cases of Covid-19 and a thousand people were dying.
Prince William was treated by physicians in the palace and quarantined at their family home in Norfolk.
It is understood that the Duchess of Cambridge did not fall ill.
“There were important things going on and I didn’t want to worry anyone,” Prince William said at an engagement, The Sun reported.
The Duke continued to work and even made video and telephone calls despite sources saying he was hit hard by the virus.
“’William was hit pretty hard by the virus – it really knocked him for six,” a source said to The Sun. “At one stage he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was pretty panicked.
“After seeing medics and testing positive – which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is – William was determined it should be business as usual though.
“He was determined to fulfill his engagements.”
Sources also said that the father-of-three did not want to add to the country’s strain despite the impact of the virus had on him.
He also contacted frontline NHS workers at that time to tell them how ‘proud’ they are of their commitment.
