During his visit to Botswana during his tour in Africa, the Duke of Sussex addressed the increasing scientific evidence of climate change and his support for Greta Thunberg, the youth climate and environmental activist.
Referencing the Global Climate Strike that started on September 20, Prince Harry said to The Telegraph, “The world’s children are striking.
“There’s an emergency. It’s a race against time and one in which we are losing. Everyone knows it. There’s no excuse for not knowing that and the most troubling part of that is that I don’t believe that there’s anybody in this world that can deny science. Undeniable science and facts.”
The 35-year-old prince continued to speak about how worrying it was that there were leaders and people who deny ‘science and facts that have been around for the last 30 maybe 40 years.’
Prince Harry told the outlet: “I genuinely don’t understand how anyone in this world, whoever we are, you, us, children, leaders, whoever it is”
He added: “no one can deny science, otherwise we live in a very troubling world.”
Thunberg was nominated for a 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for her amazing efforts to stop climate change. She even sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to make a statement about environmental impact for her speech at the UN Climate Action Summit.
The young activist blasted world leaders for their inaction, saying: “you have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.”
Prince Harry is not the only royal who showed support for Thunberg. His wife, Meghan Markle, also featured the teen on the cover of Vogue, which she guest-edited.
The September issue was ‘Forces for Change’ and featured women who have left huge marks on the world.
