The Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated the prince’s 37th birthday with a ‘low-key dinner’ and a carrot cake made with their son Archie’s help.
A source close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said that the couple decided to have a small celebration amid recent world events.
Rather than being socialites, the couple are now focusing on ‘being of service.’
The source told Daily Mail: “Meghan is planning a low-key birthday dinner for Harry. In light of what’s happening in the world – from Afghanistan to Covid – they both decided to keep it simple.
“Meghan said that she’s making a carrot cake with the help of Archie, and that guests will include Doria and a few close friends.
“Meghan said their focus right now is being of service, and that attending glitzy events like the MET Gala is wasted time and energy that could be put to good use towards those suffering and in need.”
Since they stepped down from their royal duties last year, Prince Harry and Meghan have created a brand for themselves in the United States.
They sed their platform for advocacy and charity work, particularly mental health initiatives.
On August 4, the Duchess of Sussex posted a video on their website Archewell promoting her ‘40×40’ initiative encouraging people to give 40 minutes of their time to help others in need.
“For my birthday I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists and world leaders to help kick off a global effort by contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to support women re-entering the workforce,” the duchess said.
“With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms and I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.”
