Father João Paulo Araujo Gomes is the head of the parish of Santana in the city of Gravatá in Brazil.
He became popular for his kindest and most inspiring thing he has done for stray dogs around his church. He takes stray dogs from the streets to become a part of his service to help them find loving homes.
The doors of his church are as big as his heart. These dogs attend mass every Sunday at Paróquia de Sant’Ana Gravatá.
Father João Paulo is sheltering stray dogs in his rectory away from the risks of the streets. He brings these dogs to the church service in hopes that they will be noticed.
He brings them every Sunday, the priest makes sure the dogs get all the attention. He keeps them on an important spot where everyone can see them. Pups often join the priest at the altar for some attention and belly rubs, and Father João never disappoints!
“They will always be able to enter, sleep, eat, drink their water and find shelter and protection, for this house is of God and they are of God,” Father João Paulo wrote on Facebook.
He includes the large church’s community in his mission and encourages them to invite people who want a new family member. His compassionate actions raise awareness and help to make a change, starting from Gravatá.
Thanks to the priest’s mission, many of the abandoned dogs on the streets of Gravatá, have already found loving homes. The kind-hearted priest couldn’t help but adopt some himself.
“I helped several dogs with serious health problems. Some of them I brought to the parish house and they were later adopted. Three of them stayed with me. Today, they are my children and sleep in my bed,” the Father told Bored Panda.
His selfless gesture of Christian solidarity was appreciated on social networks and generated many positive comments. People called him a true hero.
