A priest from Washington D.
C. was diagnosed with Covid-19 shortly after giving communion and greeting over 500 churchgoers with handshakes.
As Rev. Timothy Cole confirmed, he was the one the authorities referred to as the ‘patient 1’ in the region and has begun experiencing the symptoms of the killer bug on February 22 after his return from a conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
On March 1, after the reverend started feeling better, he returned to the Christ Church Georgetown Parish Hall and shook hands with over 500 congregants after giving communion.
After it was confirmed that Cole carries the killer bug on March 7, the church in question had canceled all activities.
Meanwhile, the mayor urged people who entered the Christ Church Georgetown between February 28 to March 3, or on February 24, to self-quarantine for 14 days from the day they visited the church.
According to the reports, the reverend wasn’t tested positive for Covid-19 until Saturday, March 7. At the time, the authorities only confirmed that the infected person was a man in his 50s.
The following day, on Sunday, Cole has disclosed that he’s infected with the novel coronavirus. He has been quarantined and is in stable condition at the hospital.
Meanwhile, on a more positive note, a centenarian is believed to be the oldest person to beat coronavirus after contracting the killer bug just days after celebrating his 101st birthday.
101-year-old Mr. Dai from Hubei, China, was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus shortly after celebrating his birthday.
While the virus is known to be especially dangerous to older people, the pensioner has recovered from it after a one-week treatment at Wuhan Third Hospital.
According to the reports, Mr. Dai looked “very energetic” as he had beaten the virus and left the hospital.
“He often talked about his 92-year-old wife. He said he needed to get better soon so he could go home and take care of her,” his matron, Li Lai, explained.
