A thirty-one-year-old man has been arrested after he pretended to have coronavirus as well as boasted about going to Walmart store in a video uploaded on Facebook.
Justin M. Rhodes captured himself walking in a Walmart store located at Albemarle last week for his followers.
He claimed in the video that he definitely tested positive for Covid-19 and was asked to quarantine himself for 14-21 days. He also claimed that he was asymptomatic and said he had to eat too and so everyone had to deal with it.
He said in the video that if he had got it then everyone around him should also get it and added that was how he felt about it. The three-minute clip features him discussing other places he visited that day as well as observing other people in the store.
The video has been deleted from Facebook, however, is still on YouTube where the video has more than four million views. Thankfully, some people reported the clip to the police department in Albemarle and then officers started investigating.
Albemarle police said in a statement that they brought his case to the local health department that confirmed that nobody in Stanly County has been tested positive for the coronavirus disease.
The detectives arrested Rhodes on 20th March and charged him with felony regarding creating a hoax in a public building and for disorderly conduct.
His first appearance in the court is on 30th March. Several local residents appreciated the arrest of Justin M. Rhodes on the Facebook page of the department.
Rhodes used Instagram to convey that he did not take coronavirus seriously but after doing research, he realized his mistake and apologized for acting stupidly, foolishly and during the uneasy time for the community as well as the world.
