The reason for teaching her kids about water safety was that she doesn’t want them to get “panic in a situation that they can’t touch the bottom.”

Swedberg was teaching one of her kids how to float then she heard a woman’s screams nearby. When she saw there was a woman who was pushing her way into the lake and calling people for help.

She immediately got her son to safety and jumped into the water to save the drowning boy.

“I didn’t really realize anything was off until I saw one of the moms fully dressed, sprinting into the water and screaming for somebody to help her son. Then I looked over and I saw one of the boys unable to keep his head above the water,”

“He wasn’t screaming…he was just thrashing around, bobbing a little bit,” she said.

Swedberg succeeded in bringing the drowning boy to safety. She has worked as a lifeguard for years but this was the first time when she saved someone’s life from drowning.
