A nurse in the U.
K. who was pregnant has died due to the coronavirus disease. However, her newborn baby survived after it was delivered through an emergency C-section.
The baby’s mother Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong worked as a nurse at England’s Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, which is in Luton, 35 miles north of London.
The 28-years-old was tested positive for the disease on 5th April and was hospitalized 2 days later, as per the NHS. However, it is not clear whether Mary was positive for coronavirus while still working.
Mary was not treating coronavirus patients, according to the outlet. And it is unclear where Mary was exposed to coronavirus or whether she had any underlying medical condition that had put her at a higher risk for coronavirus.
The CEO of Bedfordshire Hospitals, David Carter, announced with great sadness that one of their nurses, Mary, passed away on 12th April, Sunday.
He said that Mary worked in the hospital for 5 years and was a highly loved and valued team member, an amazing nurse, and a fantastic example of what they stand for.
He confirmed that Mary was tested positive on April 5th for coronavirus and was hospitalized on 7th April.
Then, he paid condolences to her friends and family and requested for their privacy.
Before Mary died, she gave birth to a baby girl. Her daughter was named Mary after her. This was announced by a GoFundMe campaign established in the honor of the nurse.
The organizers of the campaign said that Mary had been a blessing for everyone she had met because her sincerity, care, and love were irreplaceable.
They also said that she would remain in their hearts forever and her memories would be cherished by them forever.
A spokeswoman for the hospital noted that Mary’s daughter was doing great. Because it is unclear whether her baby also contracted coronavirus, Mary’s husband has been self-isolating.
